Pickup used as a ramp

My playing technique requires to play over the bridge pickup. The problem is that it has exposed poles and it makes my playing really difficult. Can i put something on top of the pickup to use it as ramp but with loosing output or tone from the pickup?

Take the pickup cover off and put a strip of electrical tape
over the top of the pickup. Replace the cover. The tape lets
the poles come almost even with the top of the cover, but
not quite all the way through. I've been doing this for many
years on my Fender's with no problems live or recording.
It doesn't seem to have any effect on tone either.
