pickups for 17mm string spacing

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I'm about replace all the electronics in my ibanez sr1015. The bass is a 5 string with 17mm string spacing so I'm wondering if I can use regular nordtstrand dual coil / big single pickups or if I have to get custom pickups from somewhere? Does the small string spacing matter?

Most Nordstrand pickups are meant for 19mm string spacing. This wouldn't work for your bass, since the "B" and "G" strings wouldn't be lined up over the polepieces. You should be able to custom order these pickups with different spacings, or you can purchase any of the other brands of pickups which have blades instead of polepieces.

Ah I see, thanks for the reply. I guess I have to keep looking for the right setup then.

"Usually" there's no special charge to have Nordstrand pickups built for specific string spacing. Brian at Bestbassgear.com could easily tell you for sure.

I'm currently having a 18mm spacing Nordy Dual Coil built for my custom Regenerate bass and it's the normal cost shown on the Best Bass Gear website. "Custom" pickups are currently running 7 weeks or so, or at least that's my current waiting time on mine.
