Pickups/electronics in Lawsuit Gibson copies

I've been toying with the idea of picking up an old MIJ EB-3 copy... (something like this) does anyone know how their pickups compare to those on contemporary Gibsons?

I'd rather hate to snag one and find out it doesn't sound like an EB should (case in point, the SG Bass)...

I dare say it depends on the make and whatnot.

However, if you go with a MIJ Aria like that, which was probably made in the matsumoku factory, it's probably a winner!

I'll admit that I can't comment on direct comparisons with Gibson basses, but my '77-'78 Aria J bass copy is awesome.

Tho, they may be a bit on the heavy side.

I don't mind heavy basses, I just want a heavy sound

my housemate has a no-name vintage EB-3 copy with split headstock and rotten string mute pads and a big old mystery mudbucker, but it sounds HUGE
