Pickups in a Fender MIM 60's reissue Jazz Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Just wondering if anyone knew what pickups came stock in the MIM Fender 60's reissue Jazz Bass. Whatever they are, they do the job and sound pretty good, but I can't help but feel like the sound could be better. I have a Seymour Duncan Antiquity II in my P-Bass and I LOVE that, so I'm leaning towards the Antiquity II's for Jazz Bass. I'm just curious: since the bass is in fact a vintage reissue model, wouldn't Fender likely use vintage style pickups in it? If this is the case, then I wonder how much of a difference the SD's would really make.

They are part number 0058359000 for the bridge and 005835800 for the neck, listed as a special part for the classic series basses. Nothing special pickups, I found the pair online for $50 shipped brand new.

Certain companies tend to classify certain pups as "vintage style" because it's a pretty broad description...it might look like a "vintage" single coil, but it may have a ceramic magnet or stack under the hood. The pups they use in this model are essentially of a true vintage style but are machine wound, on plastic bobbins and don't have cloth covered wiring. Also, even some of the "vintage" style pups tend to be wound a little hotter (one can call a MIM P pup "vintage" style, but last one I read had an output of 11.5k or so...era correct would be more in the ballpark of 10-10.5, though this can really vary, to be fair) or even house a pre-amp...but that would be an extreme case.

Have you researched capacaitors at all? Many times they can surprisingly compliment ones tone without the need of a pickup swap.
