Pickups for a Fender P (that will sound more Ric-ish)

Now I know that if I want the Ric sound I should just play my Ric. And I do... but I would like to make my P bass more palatable to my ears.

So... I have a Fender Aerodyne and I'm not too keen on the sound of the P or the J or the P+J. Not that they are necessarily bad, I just prefer the sound of the bridge pup in my '86 Ric.

First, are the stock pups in the Aerodyne a good representation of what p and j pups are supposed to sound like? I know I liked the Geddy Lee J bass, but I am told (and I believe it) that it is pretty damn close to sounding like a Ric without actually playing a Ric.

Then, if the Aerodyne pups are not good what are "classic" P+J pups? I like more vintage tones.

Finally, what pups should i look at to bring the bass closer to my Ric?

Also, I don't know if it will help, but a friend (who's ear I trust) recommends that I should get Lindy Fralin pups.

I just want some more opinions.

For what your wanting you want P pups with a more typical attack (P;s traditionally have a kinda note bloom no other pups have thats like a slower attack. And you also want a bass that has maple top along with P pups that have a more aggressive sound then average with some extra top end. Villex or delano might be good start pup wise.

better pickups will sound, well, better, but won't be anything like a ric.

ric pickups are in different places along the string, something no amount of EQ will emulate.
