Pickups with gold poles?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm thinking of dropping a new set of poles in my Fender AmDlx Jazz FMT V. I actually love the tones I get from this bass but bridge pup soloed leaves something to be desired. I'm looking for something more like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r4El5PMNWo. My "issue" is that I love the way this bass looks especially the gold poles that the pickups have and if I choose to replace them I'd really like to keep that look. So my question is are there any pickup makers or manufacturers that make pickups with gold poles that could get me this tone? I've been looking at the Bartolini 57J1 set (I like the all black casing) but I'm not sure. I'd like to spend under $150 for the pair. Thanks.

Seems easier to just find some pickups you like and put a little gold paint on yourself.

I've been told that gold pole pieces are only applicable to ceramic based pickups, as the nickel slugs are non-magnetized, however, I could be wrong.
I'm guessing that the gold is an electroplating of some sort, and that probably doesn't work too well on AlNiCo magnets.

I would just look into a way of painting them, like Peppacone suggested. Perhaps a metallic gold Sharpie or something would work?

Obviously gold paint or a sharpie will look like crap! Plated gold is the answer, but getting gold to stick is a real trick. You could spend your life trying to figure out how to get gold to stick to the pole pieces.

If it were me, I'd get the pickup that sounded best. Then take the cover off of it (if you can) and then cover the poles with gold leaf (used for making letters on signs) and then put the cover back on.
