Pickups for my Rick copy

Sign in to disble this ad
Realize I'm going to get a kit of Rick purists steaming about my presumptuousness to play a Japanese copy proudly, but they'll live, so...

I recently replaced the bridge pickup in my Westone/Matsumoku with a modern 4003 pickup. It tested around 11k, so it's hotter than, but it is kind of muddy. I've heard the Seymour Duncan isn't very cool, so I'm curious to hear what people think.

For the record, I play .125-.65 Chromes & tune BEAD. I'm looking for the attack Paul D'Amour got on Undertow, but only the attack. Also, I'm using JUST the bridge pickup, as the neck one is still old stock & way quieter, plus it creates slight phase problems to use both.

HELP

It's the strings and the inferior build quality making it muddy, not the pickup.

I don't know about the build quality. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I've been playing bass for almost 20 years & I've A/B'ed the Fakenbacker with a real 4001 in a store & idk if I can say I noticed any difference in feel, resonance, heft, weight, or anything. It's a 74 bass, also, & not a ****** bolt on neck Ibanez deal.

Enough about that. So you feel like the Chromes are the issue?

Or, I mean, 1 of the issues?
