Pickups to pair with an Audere...

Sign in to disble this ad
So it looks like I may be getting another Jazz Kinda weird for a guy who swore he would never own a fender, but I digress....

The current bass I have is this...

FS again: MIA Jazz w/Audere and DiMarzios -- $750 shipped OBO

I absolutely LOVE the Audere with the Dimarzios. I have also since installed a BadAss 3 bridge....

So this new Jazz i am looking at has a maple board, and is full stock. If I buy this bass, I will be upgrading to almost match my current bass. I will definitely get the BA bridge and the Audere, but I would like to possibly use different pups.

The reason for looking at new pups is to not have the same bass 2x over However, I would like to have a SIMILAR sound, hence the Audere set up.

Anyone have a good suggestion for J pups to use with the Audere that would be different, but not drastically so, from the DiMarzio's?

Try the stock ones first.

Set up a dart board that has all the ones you are thinking of on it. Best of three.

There really isn't a bad set of pickups that I have tried that sound bad with the Audere.

I have tried stock Fender single coils, Fender original '62s, a couple of sets of single coil Bartolini, Dimarzio Model J, ... that's it. All very, very good with the Audere. One of my favorites was a 30 year old set of Bart singles with the Audere in HiZ mode running through my overdriven Sansamp. Very good indeed!

I may do that.

Really been wanting to try some Aero's, and have talked to the guys there once, and they were great. may go that route.

I have a set of Nordstrand's NJ4SE's HC pups w/ a Audere in my Am Jazz and love them. Just to note a have a set of Dimarizo's J in my 76 Jazz (parts) bass and love them too. IMO, two great but different tones. Another pickup set of interest would be the NJ4's Single Coil pup's and the NJ4SV's HC pups.
Can you tell I love Carey's Jazz pups.

My LeCompte fretless has a set of Nordstrand NJ5S split coil's with the 3ZB Audere, and it sounds really good. Zero hum, just great bass tone. That bass, with that pre and pups are a fantastic combination.
