Sign in to disble this ad
Hello I have a squire jazz bass circa 1987. It is in need of aome attentoin. I would like to replace the pickups. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions. I'd like to stay within $200.00. I was thinking of the noiseless Fender jazz p.u.'s If there is a better sounding jazz p.u. plese let me know . Thanks

Depends on what is wrong with the Squier's stock pickups. One of my early basses was a black Squier Jazz and the pickups were awful, harsh and treble-y with no bottom end. I went through an EMG phase (90s metal scene was happening then) they were ok, huge improvement on the stock pickups. These days a lot of people make good pickups, I would recommend SGD, Nordstrand or Aero pickups, all under 200 I think for a set, over the Fender Noiseless. If you want a decent single coil sound with no hum, I would recommend the Nordstrand NJ4SV, you can get them used here for about 140-150 or so. Right now, in my main Jazz bass I use SGD jazzbuckers and they are very nice

What kind of tone are you going for? If you want a classic vintage j bass sound nordstrands are a good choice. The duncan sjb3 is a pretty popular pickup it sounded good but wasnt my thing. For metal emg or delanos would be great.
