pickups for THUMP

Sign in to disble this ad
On my main bass (short-scale les pauly thing you won't have heard of) I got 2 custom pickups made by Catswhisker for neck and bridge and I can get almost ever tone I'd want with those 2 and the tone control. The neck pickup is all reeeaaally deep and bassy, kinda powerful, something like a cross between a Thunderbird and a Tele bass (surprisingly clear though). Bridge pickup is also pretty low-midsy, pretty low-output for fusiony stuff and slow songs.

What I'm looking for is a pickup made for serious mudbucker style low-end, something I can use for reggae, and some motowny stuff. I know it'd probably be better off in the neck position, but I love the tone of the pickup I have there now.

Any ideas welcome.

Villex "Classic" is the first to come to my mind for this kind of sound you're looking for. you will achieve that and a lot more

He speaks the truth , these strings are the Holy Grail of thump , of course any flatwound strings will get you much closer to thump territory

i'm not really wanting to change strings as it's the only bass i play, so i need versatility, so a lot of the time i want the round sound

If they're single coils you could try them in series, and add a switch if you like it.
