pickups vs. speakers

Sign in to disble this ad
Here's where I reveal how little I know about electromagnetic sorcery and whatnot, but a friend brought this up, and I thought "huh"?

Is there any potential danger to having a bass(or guitar) sitting in very close proximity to a speaker for a long period of time? He suggested that the large speaker magnet could alter/affect the pickups over time. My thinking was, if it's even true, it would have to be VERY close, and for a LONG time, but I know nothing . . . .
Any sense to this?

This I can honestly say, I've never heard of. Millions of bass players have leaned their bass against their amp for prolonged periods (myself included) or had it very close on a stand. Never noticed a problem.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I would like to know too.
