Pickups - Where to start for custom?

Sign in to disble this ad
Help me customize this bass!

So I'm having a bass built, but I have no idea where to start when it comes to pickups & electronics...
I know I want a humbucker (MM) near the bridge, and a single-coil (Jazz?) for the neck...

I also want an active/passive switch and coil-tapping capabilities...

can you guys help me out?

see sticky at top of page, there is a link at the bottom of the original post that might point you toward what you want.

Based on my builders reccomendation I bought Aero Pickups.
I'm sure other brands offer these options but mine goes like this:
Each pickup is a humbucker that can be switched to single coil.
I can easily swith to a humbucker neck / single coil bridge, or a pair of singles or whatever.
Also the preamp volume has a push/pull feature to switch between active & passive.
Pretty versatile setup.
I think the best tone is a blended pair of passive single coils (go figure).
I prefer active electronics live though. Onboard EQ is so nice in a cover band.

Good luck with your project. It looks really cool.
