What exactly is a piezo pickup? How is the sound different than a regular pup? Thanks!

A piezo pickup is a pickup that works through physical contact and transmission of vibration, rather than magnetically. If done properly, it picks up more frequencies, but due to their electrical properties they have a high impedance, so a buffer circuit should be used.

As a jumping off point, listen to an acoustic electric bass guitar. They use piezo pickups...
