Piezo + Mag Wiring Diagram Help

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey
I am having problems with my wiring setup.

http://subliminal.audiolabs.org/crap/wiringdiagram.jpg

that is my current setup but it isn't working proper. if you turn one pickup down it shorts the whole circuit.
I have also tried switching the two magnetic pups to go direct to the jack and i still get the same result. shame. anyone have any ideas what i'm doing wrong here?

You have the volumes wired backwards.

The way you have them wired (with the output going to the wiper terminal) only works with a master volume control, as the output gets grounded when you turn down. When you have multiple volumes, the wiper must connect to the input to avoid this.

Try swapping terminals one and two of the volume pots.

Also worth noting, you can't use piezos and magnetic pickups together without active buffering.

Piezos have an extremely high impedance signal relative to magnetics, and they are capacitive rather than inductive.

You need a piezo buffer to bring down that impedance.

Also, having all those tone controls really isn't going to be that useful.
When the volumes are equal, they will interact with each other and become master tones.

I have since re-arranged my design
i have magnetic -> volume+tone -> jack
piezo -> volume+tone -> preamp buffer -> jack

i removed the neck pickup.

i had previously had terminal 3 being connected to the ground circuit, but when cutting out that connection, everything worked fine...
