Pikcup Configuration possible?

Sign in to disble this ad
So yea , i am purchasing a warmoth alder jazz bass body and i intend to add a humbucker (this one : http://www.sgd-lutherie.com/pages/ND3-HB.html ) and add it at the extreme neck location. Like picture a jazz bass with 2 jazz pups and one humbucker.

I was wondering if it would be worth it , of course i would be routing through the body. Would that be difficult? Anyways the bass would end up having the same pickup configuration like this. The Pickups would be from SGD luthiere , both the jazz and the humbucker . Or Bart 9J1 with the SGD neobucker at extreme neck position

I am on two minds , on having the routing done for that humbucker or should 2 jazz pups be enough? Oh and i am a jeff ament fanatic , and he uses the same pickup configuration in his basses.

Anyways , if it was possible could anyone help me out in the wiring aspect of the electronics if i am including the humbucker? As far as i know , i am going to have 2 stacked knobs for each jazz pup and one volume knob for the humbucker. Or would the switch be more useful? i am not really good at soldering so i would like to keep the electronic aspect of it as simple as possible . So V/T , V/T for each pickup and V for the humbucker a good setup . Won;t it decrease overall output?

Thanks in advance~

Edit : i realized the thread title is misplaced.

It wouldn't be a good idea to have more than one tone control.
Any time the volumes are turned up, the tones will act as masters.

so you answered you own question. So DOOO IT! I am a total gear nerd so I am always in favor of other than normal configurations.
As for the wiring. The more pots you add in parallel wiring (jazz bass standard) the darker it will be. You will have to reduce # of pots or use 500k's. But v-v-v-t would be cool. You must consult with Line6man. He most likely has some cool options to offer.

lol, i type his name and he beats me to the punch

VVVT , setup? You don't recommend stacked knobs? So how do i go about the wiring schematics? Help would be appreciated

The VVVT setup would be fine, you could do it on stacked knobs if you wanted.

ya. stack vols for J's. single vol for mudbucker. single tone. should look very conventional at a glance. Look up standard Jazz bass wiring on the google and add a vol pot for the 3rd pup. I'd use all 500k's too.

Stacked knobs are fine, it's having multiple passive tones that I wouldn't recommend.

I'll do a diagram later.
FWIW, VVV looks like this.

Thanks a bunch lineman6 and redleg . I'll just run over to the bass shop and talk to a few people , your diagrams definitely would come handy.

@lineman6 : i would appreciate if you could provide a diagram. But take your time. No hurry =)
