Pimp my JazzBass HGHW-1 project (pus and preamp) help

hi there all of you knowledgeable people...
i have a fender highway 1 jazz bass and i'm pretty happy for the value for money sound.

now i'm looking into upgrading the bass and make it so much better.

i am playing jazz, blues, latin, soul, gospel and blue grass.
i can also say for sure i love the fender sound and i adore marcus miller.

the idea is to replace the pickups and preamp.

my initial thought was to go for sadowsky pickups and preamp, but talking to a shadowsky owner, he told me the guitar sounds amazing, but it does not have that fender tone to it.
he claimed the mids are fading away in that guitar and this is, of course, not a good thing.

of course, i want to take my alder guitar to a whole new level and i want it all.

my options are sadowsky, john east (with other recommended pickups) and maybe aguilar (with other recommended pickups).

i want the electronics to be on board, of course.

please please please help me and share with me your wisdom and experience and help me build the best bass i can.

i need your recommendations for pickups and preamp that work very good together, complement each other and have that fender sound but take it to a whole different level and may give me that marcus miller sound and cut through the mix and have presence in live performances.

i am open to any suggestions and will consider all solutions, hoping to make the best decision and make my bass sing.

i do plan on getting a warwick streamer in several months, so i don't want to go there, sound wise.
i want my fender pimped up and ready to growl.

thanks for your time, help and patience.

sincerely...

FWIW:

see FAQ for Dimento's Trouble Shooting guide, mostly the Bass Mod link in the first paragraph but wouldn't hurt to skim the TS guide either - may save you some grief.

Are you going for the vintage or modern Jazz sound. For vintage Fender 62 jazz Pickups Or Nordstrand Jazz pickups and If Modern Seymore Duncan Basslines and the Preamp of choice would be Audere. Just my opinion.

If you're aiming at the big scooped MM sound, then a clear pickup like hte Lawrence J45 would be a nice choice. See http://www.billlawrence.com My preamp of choice is the Audere for it's quiet operation and transparency.
