I changed pickguards on one of my p basses (yet again :-)) and after plugging in to play...I noticed the volume was significantly less than it should have been. I proceeded to take the pg off and noticed that one of the output jack prongs was rubbing the inside of the cavity...so I shifted it, reinstalled the pg...and appear good to go. Anyone else have this happen...is there anything I should be on the look out for?

Yeah....I did....was just surprised that something like that would cause such a drop in volume. The output dropped to about 25% of what it should have been.

Thanks for the response/bump

Put a piece of tape over the shielding, so that the jack cannot touch it.

You mean underneath the pickguard? Should I just trim back the aluminum tape where the jack is?

Around the shielding tape or paint that is in the control cavity.
Don't break continuity for the shielding on the pickguard!

The jack prong was touching the shielding paint which is all over the inside of the cavity. This shorted most of your signal to ground. You are now good to go.

Ahhh...that's what I kind of figured, but wanted confirmation to calm my nerves. Thanks
