Planet Waves cables

Not sure which forum to post this in, but I have a Planet Waves 20 footer with the lifetime warranty. One end is starting to crackle, can I take it in and get a new cord?

I think Planet Waves is a limited lifetime warranty, as opposed to a full life time warranty. The difference is that with the limited, the wire has to be sent back to Planet Waves where the evaluate the situation. A regular lifetime warranty, such as Monster, you can just go in and swap out cables on the spot.

However, call your local shop that carries the product and double check.

I just read the fine print on the back of a Planet Waves cable. It says the product is guaranteed for life and to return to D'Addario or an authorized Planet Waves dealer for a replacement. It was not the limited lifetime warranty I was thinking about it. I think that might be Rapco? I am not sure.

Mogami cables are expensive, they should replace them if they have a lifetime warranty. I would check, but those are too far away from right now and I am lazy... lol Maybe I will check later.

Either way, you should call up your shops and ask policy on the cables. The shop does not lose money on it, so they won't be reluctant to return it for you.

From what I've heard here on TB, that is no longer the case with Monster, you have to send the cable in now.

I work at a guitar shop - if somebody brings in a PW cable that's stopped working we just swap it on the spot.

I have exchanged two different Planet Waves cables on the spot with no questions asked, however I was informed that it only applies once per cable.

For the record - Planet Waves has a lifetime guarantee on all of its cable lines. If you have the cable and it craps out - bring it either to the dealer that you purchased it from or you can send it back directly to us and we'll take care of it for you. No receipt necessary - some dealers won't like that part but you can then send it on to us and we'll replace it. Don't forget to send us a return address.

Oh cool! I don't have the receipt for mine anymore so this is awesome.

I should ask my shop first though. They know me and treat me well.

Really? Damn. I haven't heard that one yet. Maybe it depends on the shop? I was talking to manager about a few weeks ago and he said its a swap deal. But it has been a few weeks, so I don't know.

Probably depends on the shop, but (this was said a few months ago), it was said this was Monster's new policy. Not positive on the exact details, but the new policy is more restrictive in that you can't just walk in off the street and swap defective cables for new ones anymore. Whether you need a receipt or have to send it to Monster, I don't know.

This answers everything! Thanks a lot. And thanks for working for a company that makes great instrument cables.

Wish I knew that before I threw one out last year...

That cable lasted through ten years of very heavy use. The other cable I bought at the same time is still going strong. I'm more than happy with your cables. Excellent.

It is true that some dealers won't be fully up-to-speed on the guarantee and may not swap it out for you however, if they deal directly with our company, they more than likely know this and should honor it. But the good news is, if they don't you can come directly to us and we'll take care of it. That also goes for the folks in the UK (as we have a D'Addario UK now - so you don't have to ship it back to the US).

well i took my cable to my local store where I bought it (almost 5 years ago) and he said (after a lengthy call with his Canadian distributor) that I'd have to pay him to ship it back to his distributor or ship it back myself.

so no quick cable swap for me.

Good to know! I knew I loved PW cables for a reason.
