Hello.. i have a problem with my bass and i was hoping someone could help me. I have a dean bass guitar..(not sure of the exact model) with 2 active pickups,, it has the 3 tone dials and a volume.. my problem is this. the bass was working fine but the battery sounded like it needed to be replaced.. so i opened the battery hatch on the back side while the guitar chord was still plugged in and replaced the battery with a fresh one.. however i wasnt paying attention and i originally placed battery in with the positive to the negative.. so i corrected the battery placement and tried to play it but i have no sound now at all?. i have tried different chords and still nothing, i tried a different guitar with the same amp and chord and no problems. i tried a different battery still no sound. i removed the battery casing and checked the wires and they are soldered tight. i removed the back plate and checked the wires on the input jack and they are tight.. is it possible i have damaged the guitars preamp by placing the battery in backwards? any help would be greatly appreciated, i have no idea what is wrong. thank you

You could have easily stretched the ports on the battery input, try squeezing the largest one so that it hugs the battery tight.

P.S Don't leave your cord plugged in when doing repairs, and take it out when not playing it, it drains the battery very fast

thanks.. that did happen .. i adjusted the prongs but still nothing.. i reopened the electronics plate on the back and i now observe that the wire coming from the positive terminal of the battery is leading nowhere.. so im assuming this has become disconnected. now the problem is trying to determine where its supposed to go.. I have 3 tone controls a volume control and preamp inside and i cant determine where its diconnected from.. I went to the dean website and have been unable to find a wiring schematic.I called dean and spoke with a representative they said the tech that does the tech stuff is gone for a week. the wire from the negative is leading to the chord input jack. any ideas where the positive is supposed to lead??

It goes to the positive power supply rail on the preamp board, but finding where that is may be problematic. Typically that sort of connection is through a hole in the circuit board to a spot of solder on the other side. It may be labeled, or it may not, and there might only be one likely candidate hole, or there may be several. Looking at it, a tech might be able to figure it out, or he may need to get help from Dean.

thanks again for the help.. earlier i was looking at the preamp and there is a place on it that i suspected the wire may have come from.. theres a lump of solder in one corner but no wire leading from it.., this sounds sounds to me like what you were explaining.. however earlier i tried to hold it in place with my hands just to see if i got some sound and i didnt hear anything..do you think it would have to be soldered to get a solid enough connection?

unfortunately this did not solve my problem.. i soldered the postive wire to where it appeared to have disconnected from the preamp.. and i still have no sound at all..
