In my soon to be modded Sting bass I want to Darkstar it. Question is should I do just the one in the mid position or slip on at the Mubbucker neck or waaaaaaay down by the bridge as well. I am consolidating my insturments and want this to be a versatile little beast.

Dude, I wish I could afford Darkstarring my bass. I'd go with 2. Like a Jazz.

I'm learning towards that...I also like the middle. Like I said this will be a fun little beastie to play once I do this.

I have one in the P bass position and it's amazing. I wish I had a bass with 2 so I could tell you the difference...but the Darkstar is great. I've got P's, J's, Mudbuckers, T-birds....everything except active. Darkstar is a beautiful sounding pickup.

It's a P bass. Don't screw it up with more than one!

I would say 2!

I have a darkstared Jazz BAss and its the greatest bass ever! I am about to do a second one...
There is one problem though, Fred Hammond has been unreachable for the past 4 months, doesnt answer mails, his phone (voicemail is full) or anything...
Dont know if hes still doing pickups!
Im glad i have a spare pair for my second Jazz cause it doesnt look to good if you where planning on ordering them!

There are a few other threads if you search... Darkstar Pickups Info

That's downright hawt. Figures the minute I want to downsize and turn the sting into this Fred isn't reachable. Good times. Guess I'll have to bribe someone for a pair.

I wonder if he is unreachable due to... maybe a potential deal in the works to mass produce them to Freds specs? he is busy testing prototypes from the plant?

$75 darkstars for everyone?

:-)

Oh, OP- I htink on that bass it'd "look" bette to keep it at one in the P sweet spot. however, adding one in the brdige would be sweet. i am not a mudbucker guy... playing up by the neck with a P pup is as muddy-thuddy as I ever need.

I guess that kinda rules out the 1 pickup option..?..

I'd go with two,Kinda like a jazz, But with the bridge PU an inch or more closer to the "neck" pickup.
(More MM position-y) Just seems like a nicer tone (To Me) than the Bridge PU when soloed.

YMMV.

JMO..?..

On that Sting, I think it would be cool with one mudbuckered and one at the bridge, kind of like a Lakland Decade

I'd have to agree. I say just do one in the center, or all three.

You know if you do two, you'll always want the third one.

I've got both choices in the house right now (middle/bridge for the two) and much prefer the two pickup configuration.
