Possible pickup upgrade...need tech help please

Sign in to disble this ad
I am considering upgrading my mij pickups to MIA standard pups from a friend's 2007 MIA P bass. His bass has the S1 switching system and I want to know if that will affect my install in any way. Sorry but I am new at this and just wanted to make sure wiring wise it will be straightfoward and that the fact these came from an S1 equipped bass won't make a difference.

Thanks

The S1 switch is a series/parallel switch, correct?

There will be 4 conductors, rather than 2.
What you need to do is connect the + from one coil to the - on the other, then use the remaining + and - as hot and ground connections, just like on your old pickup.

Or, de-solder the 2 extra wires, and solder in a short wire connecting the 2 coils, as with traditional 2 conductor p bass pickups.

Thanks alot ...I think option 2 would be the simplest route.
