Possible to turn a U-Retro into a J-Retro?

Sign in to disble this ad
I came across a pretty great deal on an East U-Retro preamp.
Appears to be the same preamp as the J-Retro, minus the control plate.
I'm wondering if it's possible to mount a U-Retro preamp to a control plate (assuming I could get one with switch holes as well as pot holes) and essentially make a J-Retro? Also, would the U-Retro circuit fit in a Jazz cavity?

Where would I even get such a Jazz plate? Maybe John would sell me one....

It should work. You will have to drill 2 small holes in the plate. And you may have to remove some wood to fit the preamp in the hole, and I would recommend a seperate battery box.

So if you are will to do a little work with your power tools then you can do it.

Hmm. There's already a battery box but I'm not certain I'd want to remove any wood out of the control cavity. It's a '78 Jazz bass and fairly expensive, I'm afraid I'd mess it up.
We'll see, I guess.
