I'd take it to a repair shop and see what they say...

I think 22 guage stranded copper wire is the standard for connecting pots and things. The wire from my pickups doesn't look to be copper though. I'm not quite sure but it might be silver wire. I've been told silver wire is better than copper but it costs a lot more. I hope that helps.

If the bass is active I dont think you would be able to tell a difference. If its passive oxygen free copper with teflon insulation would be the best, but I still dont think you would tell a difference. The quality of the pots would make a bigger difference than the wire used. As for the silver colored wire in Booners bass, it is just tinned copper wire. This makes it easier to solder.

I go for slightly fatter than what guitars generally come with but I'm an overkill person. Plus I like to ensure the connections (lovely silver solder). Then again I dig up my wire from anywhere - rubbish piles at building sites - electricians throw away awesome pieces they think are too small for anything yet there is generally plenty of length for bass work.

The Radio Shack wire above is just fine, but there are also more specific and expensive options. You will likely not hear any difference it's a matter of ease of use primarily.

The cloth coated wire is very cool but is not good to experiment with. It looks great if done right and really crappy if not.

You mean I shouldn't use that $100/ft wire from Monster Cable? The guy at Circuit City said the Monster Cable had better "bass response"...
