Pot problems, help please...

I've got a custom-built bass with a DiMarzio Model 1 at the neck and an Ultra Jazz at the neck. I used stacked concentric pots. (not sure of the k)

So aside from one of them shorting out on the first note of the show the other night (It saw the first show with the guitar, too) I'm not sure I'm getting all I can tone wise from this setup.

As far as the "blending" of the 2 pups, the model one seems to take over the spotlight with about a 70% to 30% ratio of model 1 signal and tone over UltraJazz signal and tone. Is this just the way it is, or is there another wiring/blending/switching/pot option that will maybe give me a little more control without output loss.

Oh, it's passive, too. And that aint gonna change on this bass.

Thanks for your time.

The model one is about the same resistance as the ultra jazz. Neck pickups are always louder though, so they are often wound lower than the bridge.

I'd also check the stacked pots.. some are 500K/250K. Are you using one stack for both volumes, or two stacks for volume tone?

You can try wiring the model one to parallel, that will brighten it up and lower it's output so it should blend better. Otherwise just don't mix them both equal.

Yeah, I've got the poles cranked up on the Model 1, so I will ammend.

1 stacked knob per pup with tone on the bottom and volume on the top.

I will try to wire the Model 1 parallel and see what it gets me.

Thanks for your time and advise, DRM.
