This may be a stupid question but on a passive instrument,
1973 Jazz bass to be specific, do the type or values of the pots affect the basic tone of the instrument? This bass has had multiple pup changes and currently has Sadowsky humcancelling J's. Used to have 20 year old Duncan vintage single coils and EMG's. I've never been able to get a sound that I think is accurately reproducing the acoustic sound of the instrument. Except with the EMGs there never seems to be enough clarity or top end response. I have no idea what pots are in it. I'd like to replace the current pups with Fralins since I've had them on many other basses and always liked them. I was considering humcancelling but might even go single coil again. My main question here is about pots. Are there different values or even brands that work best with different types of pups?
