pot replacement 2010 mim jazz

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay,
so I acquired the CTS Linear taper pots for my jazz bass.
Opened it up and started taking pics of the wiring and something kinda stood out.
The black wire from the bridge pickup is soldered to the tone pot.
Actually the same situation is present with the neck pickup.
Is my bass miswired?
Every wiring diagram I have seen has the black wire going to the case of the bridge pickup volume pot.
There is no ground wire attached to the casing of the bridge volume pot at all.
Am I missing something here?
Please give me some feedback as I am not sure which way to turn on this.
Thank you very much in advance for any direction or feedback you may offer.
Jeff

It looks OK to me. Do the knobs work as expected? They should...

The grounds are fine, they just used the back of the tone pot instead of a volume pot, it makes NO difference. The volume pots are grounded by having one tab soldered to the can, and then they are all tied together via the metal control plate. Note that the output jack doesn't even have a ground wire connected to it, and doesn't need one either.

It makes absolutely no difference. All ground points on the bass carry the same potential.

Thanx guys,
I had forgotten about the controls being mounted on a metal control plate.
A DUH moment for me.

Got it done!
Thanx for the feedback, works as expected, nice tapered volume now, from 0 to 10.

yep sure did Walter.
I was really surprised to see they were CTS pots.
Pleasantly surprised indeed.
