Which pot to use...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all, just got two new full size CTS pots and a new cap to upgrade my Japanese mustang. My multimeter readings put one of the pots @ 225k and one at 265k. These readings are clearly not the ideal 250k but are within CTS's +/- 10% range.

The question is which pot should I use for volume and which should I use for tone? Is there some other reading that would be more useful in deciding which pot to use for what? I'm happy to take more readings if necessary and report back. Thanks in advance.

Those pots will give you a total circuit value of 490 ohms. Makes no difference which position.

Yeah... just solder those CTS pots right in place of the old ones.. Hope you'll take some notes and pics BEFORE you make any changes however. That method has saved me alot of re-work more than once. Your values look 'good to go' to me as well. Have fun with your project... sounds very enjoyable.

so putting the pot that reads 265k in the tone position wont create slightly different tone possibilities than one that reads 225k?

If there's a tonal difference between 500k & 250k then there's a tonal difference between 265k & 225k. Not much though.
