I want to be able to switch between single-coil and humcancelling, and I plan to use push-pull volume pots to do this (not much room in the cavity, and I'd rather not try to squeeze any switches in there). FWIW, the pickups in question are from a Peavey T-40, and the bass is a Foundation. If I were going to use them strictly in humbucking mode, I'd go with 500K and use the push-pull for series and parallel. But I don't know if 500K will be too bright for the single coil mode even with the tone knob rolled way off. I think the 250Ks would work okay on a narrow-aperture humbucker like a Jazz shape, but the side by side coils of the T-40 really need 500K, IMO.
Which would you all choose? Or is there an available push-pull pot that's in between 250K and 500K?

In any case, I like 500Ks. |

| | | | 500k linear volumes, 500k audio tone.
if it's too bright in split-mode, roll the tone down to about "7".

parallel is close enough to single coil for me.
Also, Push Push pots are my new favorite. I'd go 500k push push with 500k tone with a .05 cap
PS. My fretless has dual Nordy DC's and I have them wired to a 4pdt 2 way switch. one switch can place both pups in series or parallel (a la G&L)

Individual series/parallel switches would give you more tonal flexibility. (And that is not to say that all of the options will sound good, just that you have more flexibility. )
If you are going to use a 4PDT switch, however, go for an On-On-On, so you can have the single coil option as well. |

I played my friends G&L and dug the simplicity of one switch. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
