PRE-AMP

Sign in to disble this ad
So I have a American Precision Fender Bass. Everything on the bass comes from factory and in my search to make it sound better I've heard that people like to change the PRE-amp. My bass is passive and I really like the power a active bass has. Is it possible to make a passive bass to an active bass changing the PRE amps? Also where can I get the and is it easy enough to do it my self?

I've also seen Little separate boxes that are PRE amps on guitar center, do they work too?

Please help a newbie!

Thank you!

You can change add a pre-amp to your P bass, but it's tight, especially if you don't route out a space under the pick guard for a battary. A better option would be to get a Sanzamp or "Outboard" pre-amp of some sort.

Here is a good place to start: Bass Pickups | Preamps | Bartolini | Aguilar | Leo Quan Badass Bridge II

Good luck.

If you don't want to route any wood out of it (and you have the funds), John East makes a preamp specifically for precisions that is re-charged through the 'output' jack. I haven't tried it, but I used to have one of his U-retro pre's in one of my basses. Nice!
