Pre for a Geddy

Someone was telling me that I should put a J Retro pre in my Geddy. He said I would get better results than changing pickups.

Tell me your opinions

Thanks

If you do a search for "j-retro" and/or "geddy" in this forum, you get plenty of opinions. You may want to consider an Audere pre also(I've heard some nice things about them-heck, I'm getting one put in Lakland DJ5!).

The Dudepit has a J-retro forum...

The J-Retro certainly has more versatility inherent to it than any combination of pickups/ passive controls will give you. Also, the J-Retro seems to give a fatter sound even when set flat (there is a certain amount of eq shaping at all times). If I had a Geddy I was looking to screw around with, I would probably put in a J-Retro and new pickups- I know a J-Retro sounds good combined with Dimarzio Model J pickups from experience (though I haven't tried it with any other pickups yet). I would definitely assume that it would do wonders with the Geddy Lee pickups as well!

I personally don't like active basses much- the ones I've had I've always used passive if possible. That being said, I got a bass in trade with a J-Retro installed and loved it!

HI

Dont bother. Get yourself a Sadowsky pre/Di floor box. No alterations of your GL, tone for days

Or an Aguilar DB924 outboard preamp.

audere get's my vote, but a sadowsky outboard would be a good option as well. as for the pickups the stock ones are decent, if you upgrade there are too many options to count. need to narrow down your tonal preference.
