Pre and pot question

Sign in to disble this ad
I searched and can't find an example of how I'd like my jazz controls to be set up. Right now it is stock Vol, Vol, tone. I'd like Vol, treble, bass. Also If it can be done with a push pull volume pot for series/ parallel that's nice too. Who make a preamp in this config??

Volume, Treble, Bass?
do you want a 3 way switch or something?

Or do you mean Volume, Volume, Treble, Bass?

This *should* be a standard wiring scheme, but i cam draw you up a schematic if you need it.

no switch..... the volume for both pickups would be controlled by one knob. Not individual pickup volume levels but a master volume (I think this is series wiring yes)..........and the same for treble and bass knobs. Think of it as a bas with one humbucker, a volume knob and 2 band eq. Am I making sense? I may be explaining it poorly

I think the factory Fender preamp will do what you are looking for...

Some people don't like them and get rid fo em cheap if you are on a budget.

Master vol >Blend> Stacked Treble bass> mid.

See em go for 50-70 here on TB sometimes.

There are plenty of preamps that do the master volume/balance/bass/treble configuration, but I think the series/parallel will have to be your own modification. It may be easier to use a mini-toggle instead of some kind of push-pull switch.
You can find generic (~$20-25) units on ebay, while Artec and Belcat are slightly more.

Bartolini places the master volume after the tone circuit on their NTBT, which is supposed to influence the overall tone less (makes sense, you're removing a variable resistor from the tone circuit). I'm not sure how others are doing it.

Check out these links for some very well drawn pickup and preamp/eq circuits:

and click on the "Wiring Book" link in the upper left side of the page

If you want the volume knob after the preamp, do it like this:

ok, a few people have mentioned a master volume, blend, stacked bass/treble set up and that's easy to understand.....now take that set up, remove the blend knob replace it with the treble knob and instead of a stacked bass/teble it would be just a bass knob. so both pickups would be on all the time and the volume knob is a master volume and then theres a passive 2 band eq.......Make sense now? That's how I want it wired but I wouldn't know what to solder where

I grok. More is less, for you.

It sounds like you could use the Bartolini 2.3 A/P to get what you want.

1 Pickup - 3 knob configuration

Controls:
- Volume (w/Active-Passive Push-Pull)
- Treble
- Bass

Wire the pickups in series or parallel, whichever way you want. The active/passive option may be more than you want, but since it is a push/pull, it won't get in the way; no big deal.

Good Luck!

That might do it; active/passive is a good option.

Not sure if you can get a suitable item, but substitute a push-pull pot for a tone pot? Let that do the s/p switching.

Thanks everyone Versatek6 nailed it......sorry if I wasn't explaining it very well. But the 2.3 A/P is the perfect one for what I'm trying to do. Thanks again.........when I get around to it I might record a before and after but you'd have to excuse the playing..LOL
