Push/pull pot problem

Hi. I am having a hard time with push/pull at my bass. When i pull pot the inner part of the pot (shaft) scratches whenever it touches the outer cavity of the pot. If i push it back and roll it, it doesn't scratch. These doesn't seem to be a pot problem per/se. What do you guys think it could be. I mean, the scratch starts once i push the pot and roll it TOUCHING The outer cavity of the pot with the inner solid part. I hope i'm being clear. Any advice?

I have no idea what you're trying to say. What is an outer cavity? Do you mean the switch housing?

In any case, the mechanical function of the switch does not affect the rotation of the pot in any way, as the shaft simply passes through a hole in the center of the pot. (The shaft/hole are not round, but notched, however, so that rotating the shaft will also rotate the pot's wiper.) If by scratching, you mean mechanical scraping noises and/or increased rotational inertia, the end of the shaft may be pushed up against something inside of the switch. Try dissasembling the pot and cleaning the part of the shaft that "hooks" onto the switch.

Here's a disassembled push/pull pot. As you can see, there is not much that can go wrong.

Hi, thanks i have disabled mine too. You see the scratchy shorting happens when the inner part (the long stick) touches the treaded part of the pot. Could it be a wiring problem or grounding?
