Question about Basslines QP Jazz in Geddy Lee

I had a SD Bassline Quarter Pound Pickup installed in my Geddy Lee in the neck position. The stock pickup is still in the bridge pickup location. When I roll both volume pots full up and the tone full up, it sounds like playing through a cardboard box. Absolutely no bottom end and quiet. Yet, when roll either the neck or the bridge back just the tinest bit, there is a massive increase in volume output and the low end returns. Is there a wiring issue happening here? I used to run both volume pots full on when both were stock pickups with no problem? I haven't yet looked at how the tech wired it as i was waiting to get some feedback from here. Thanks.

The QP is a MUCH louder pickup than the stockers, and it does not work and play very well with others. I used to use them in my P Lyte, and the only bridge pickup out of the 3 I tried that worked with it was a QP J pickup.

Interesting, do you suppose a qp bridge pickup would mediate the problem?

Try reversing the wires on one of the pickups. It sounds like they are out of phase.

That could be as well, but judging from my experience with QP's, they just don't get along with other pickups. Still, it's a lot cheaper to try reversing phase on one pickup than to buy another one

My guess is replacement Pots are in order to match up to the QP better.

That definitely sounds like a phase issue.

Best of luck

Bob

I agree but it's usually a matter of the QP overpowering the other pickup. "No bottom end and quiet" are not in a QP's vocabulary.

I was just thinking that because when you backed off a little bit the problem seemed to go away. So maybe there was too much range from that particular pot. The Phase thing actually makes more sense so try it first. Generally the QP's pair nicely with 500 K pots
