replacement MM style humbuckers for 62 jazz

Sign in to disble this ad
My uncle just gave me his red Fender jazz bass he's had since 1962 and it needed some more low end, i've routed out spots for two musicman style pickups has anyone ever used the EMG or bartolini MM style pickups? I've got EMG's in my mexi p-bass and it sounds wicked!! also thinking of doing a custom battery door for the back of the bass. Should I get a pre-amp too? Also does anybody know what to do with the chipping and cracking around the edges of the rout? My buddy whos a carpenter said I should have masked the edges but its a little too late now.

Assuming you are not just trolling to yank peoples chains, you owe your uncle about $15,000.

An authentic 62 Jazz intact would be worth something like that.

Give him back is what is left so he can sell the parts.

Thumbs up Oops

Oh, I didn't realize.

He said that I could do whatever I wanted to it so long as I was going to make good use out of it. He said people used to all kind of cool things like that back in the eighties.

Well now I've come this far I might as well make it the way I want it right?

One less link to the glory days of the Fender Jazz Bass. Reading the first post made me weak in the knees.

YOu should look into Nordstrand MM replacement pickups. Many prefer them in their stingrays and Sterlings - so I see little doubt that they would work fine in your vintage Jazz.

And Like I say to everyone looking to gig with a vintage bass - remove that hardware and save it somewhere. There are many vintage replacement tuners and bridges (simply check out hipshot). If you break a 1962 Fender tuner - it'll be hard to find an era specific replacement.

I hope the mods turn out in your favor tonally.

You should post pics of the workmanship. I'm always looking for new ideas.

cheers
