Some of you will remember the thread I started in here a few weeks ago. I swapped all the electronics in my Warwick for EMG and now my bass is super quiet...
I had swapped EMG LJ jazz pickups, and an EMG BTC system into the bass. Compared to my Warwick Rockbass Corvette, My Thumb bass was super quiet, and had very little output. This comparison was done with my practice amp, which is an Epiphone Valve Jr guitar combo amp. For practicing at home, it's always been a fine amp. Even my Thumb bass, with it's malfunctioning MEC electronics still sounded sounded like it should, with plenty of output. That all changed with the EMG setup.
I have had the bass looked at by a professional repair technician, and he found no issues with the electronics on the Thumb bass. I was pretty dissapointed, I couldn't figure out why on earth the bass was so quiet. I've been over the wiring diagram a half dozen times, I've stared at the control cavity of the bass, trying to find something wrong.
I finally got to bring my bass amp home from the rehearsal space.
I finally got to play my Thumb through a proper bass amp.
I don't know why the bass is so quiet thru a guitar amp, but it's absolutely thunderous thru my bass amp. It sounds great. The sound quality I was hoping for is there. It still has the burpy Warwick Thumb slap tone with both pickups on. With the BTC, I can roll the blend knob all the way to one side or the other, and there's aboslutely no change in volume. With the bridge pickup solo'd, it gets a real ballsy jazz tone. With the middle pickup solo'd it gets a very aggressive p bass vibe, with a lot of Warwick growl. My favorite settings so far is BTC all the way on the middle pickup, volume up all the way, bass up all the way, treble on center detent. My bass amp isn't the greatest, doesn't sound the greatest. With the Thumb, I can get some pretty decent sounds out of it. I'm definitely very impressed, very relieved, and very much in love with my Thumb all over again, just like I was when I got it back in January. I've waited a long 7mo to play this thing!!
