I've though of this also.A one pickup bass with no controls.Any volume and tone adjustment would be done by a volume pedal and a wah pedal(which is basicaly a tone modifier).

I did it with my Jazz bass because I wanted a brighter sound.

I liked it a lot but I wanted to have some control back again. I now have 500k master tone and master volume pots, and a series/parallel switch. I'm a happy camper

I did that for a while on a j bass, and I loved it, but I did have to put some resistors in line to tame the highs. Currently I'm using a p bass with just a kill switch. Love it.

I just have a 500K linear volume pot w/bleed cap and no tone. I use the volume for fades and the occasional tremolo during "Hollywood" endings - can't do without it . Otherwise I'd just go with a kill switch .
