Split coil PBass-style in a soapbar shape? Hi! Looking to use my Yammy RBX374 as a project bass. I'm looking for pickups to replace the original humbuckers, and probably go passive. I've searchd for hours, and the only thing I've found is that the Yamaha RBX774 pickups are split-coil under a soapbar cover, but finding those is impossible, and I don't know how they'd sound in passive mode. Thanks in advance! |

EMG does one, but I'm not sure if they do it in a passive model. |
Thanks! I'm looking for a 4-string version now. |
Nordstrand Big Split. |
Checking out the Nordstrand Big Splits now. Looks interesting. http://www.bestbassgear.com/nordstra...rdstrandbsplit Trouble is, I don't want to throw as much money into this bass as a new BASS would cost. Maybe I'll buy some traditional split P's and get a custom pickguard made, or make my own. |

Keep in mind that the Big Split is a split coil (to hum cancel) but it is still wound/designed to sound like a jazz pickup rather than a P. |
I disagree. The Big Split/Big Single are much fatter geometrically than a Jazz pickup. In fact, the coil is very similar in size to a Tetris-block Precision pickup. I know that my Big Singles sound Precision-ish to my ears. |
I would even consider a humbucking J-type pickup. I already have a Precision anyway. Thank you. |
Bartolini MK-1 |
EMG 35P HZ or 40P HZ, can't remember the pckups size on the 374, but it's my favorite sounding Yamaha RBX....love those pickups. Also Bartolini Quad coils, or SGD Quad Coils may be worth looking at. Also, if you want a more hybrid sound, look to some MM pickups. You can get some nasty growl, and a classic smooth out of the same pickup like a SD SMB4A or the Kent Armstrongs |
The 374 uses EMG-40-sized pickups, much like an RBX-375 uses EMG-45-sized pickups - so they use a "one-size-too-large" casing. |

From what I've been reading in the MM pickup sticky, the MM sound is very much developed by the placement (close to bridge) and the MM preamp. Kind of a combination thingy. Thank you. |
Wish I could get some feedback from someone who's tried the Yammy P/U without the preamp. I just might try doing it myself for a gig to find out. I can always plug in my Precision if it sucks too badly. The Yammy plays very nice, though. |

I never knew the MK-1's were split coil! They are not on the website. Does anybody know what model currently made is closely the same? The MK4CBC is the only 'MK' pickup I see. Thank you. |
