Stingray 5-volume pot problem...

Stingray problem...
Used Stingray 5::

The volume pot does something weird... it doesn't fade in gradually... it's like it suddenly gets loud and there isn't a lot of leeway in the lower volume area. I didn't notice this at home, and I am wondering if this is a result of an active bass into the old Hartke head at the rehearsal studio, a as opposed to my GenzBenz head which is designed to accept active basses.

Anybody experience this ? Or are the pots fried on my new-to-me Ray?

FWIW:

in my experience volume should be gradual regardless. Most amps have an active/passive input. The active input is simply cut about 10dB so if you plug an active bass into the passive input it will just be louder - and you're likely to get some distortion.

Since it does it with one amp and not another I'd go find some more amps to determine the source - or plug another bass into the same amps.

It does it with all amps. It was coincidental that it first started happening at rehearsal with an older amp. As of today has been returned to Geeetar Center for repairs, never to be seen again, dammit. Thanks for your response.
