StingRay HH wiring questions

Sign in to disble this ad
I have recent;y scored an XLNT EBMM StingRay HH, and it's Really great. But I think the bass should have a bit more flexibility than the 5 position pickup selector offers.

The 5 positions starting from the Bridge are:

Bridge pickup in Parallel humbucking.

Outside Coils (Rear coil of Bridge pickup, Front coil of Neck pickup)

Both pickups in Parallel Humbucking

Inside Coils (Front coil of Bridge pickup, Rear coil of Neck pickup)

Neck pickup in Parallel humbucking.

Decent selection of sounds, and maybe I should be happy with what I have. But!

Is there a way to add a 3 way toggle to each pickup seperate from the pickup selector? I'd like to be able to use Parralel / Single Coil / Series with the pickup selector in positions 1, 3, and 5. I'm not sure what effect these toggles would have on positions 2 & 4, but I'd be willing to replace the 5 way selector with a 3 - way selector (Bridge Pup, Both, Neck Pup) to add this functionality. (Yeah, my Roscoe Beck has me Spoiled! )

Has this been done? Can it be done? Any suggestions, comments, or criticisms would be appreciated.

Yuo can't do that with the stock pickups.

for me, the stock 5 positions is more than enough (and is more than most basses have too.)

My SR5 HH has 3 wires only, maybe yours is different, experiment a little and see what happens.
I also modded mine with a 3 way switch to use bridge/ both/ neck pickups.
