stingray5 silly question.... about pickup selector

ok guys... silly question...
what is the difference between the 3 positions on a stingray's pickup selector? what does each do? ive always used the "neck" position just cuz i thought it sounded best. please help. what position do you use and why?

Series->Single Coil->Parallel.

Parallel is the classic stringray sound. Series is bit brighter, less mid-scooped. SC coil is a thinner sound.
