Just out of curiosity, has there ever been an instance where stock pickups were better than the pickups you bought and installed? If so, share your story haha.

I don't think I've ever personally swapped out a pickup in my own equipment in my nearly five decades of playing, but a number of people I know who went to SD SCPB pickups for their '51RI & "Sting" basses went back to the original MIJ mystery pickups, which are supposed to be very close to the original '55 Fender version.

I once bought a Set of EMG Select Pickups to swap them into my SX Jazz Bass that I have had at this Time. I found the the Stock Pickups Way better than the "Selects".....

OH YES! I bought a set of DiMarzio P bass PUPs in 1977 for my '73 Precision. They were nasty, and accentuated everything that was wrong with the sound of that POS bass. I had Seymour Duncan rewind the stock PUPs (they'd died) and that helped a lot.
