So i've been in the effects forum finding what i need to get that sound i want. well out of curiousty and a future of free time that will be coming my way i was interested in building a pedal. I have a small understanding. i really just wanted to throw out the idea and to anyone who has built pedals or just has and abundance of knowledge respond to me as if im a fith grader.

My idea is to give me a pedal that produces distortion like a Proco Rat or a Fulltone OCD. I want to also be able to have the option to go down or up 1 octave...maybe 2. along with being able to control the bass and treble. that way if i want to drop the bas a large amount i can and if i want to increase the treble i may as well but with the treble it would be as effective as if it has a treble boost.

possible? sounds ludacris? I'm already in thre process of purchasing the pedals to give me the sound a want and i have heard so i know what it will sound like. Just for fun. knowledge , and something that i can turn into a very worthy hobby. i would liek to create this in one stomp box.

Going down and up octaves is a pitch-shifter, like the Whammy. Completely separate effect from a distortion. Most distortions will have tone controls that let you shift the balance from the lows to the highs, some actually go as far as giving you parametric EQ controls. You can find information on building them in many places on the web, but it sounds to me like you don't quite have a grip on what you want to be doing yet, so maybe you should do some more research into different distortions, as some "guitar" distortions work very well on bass but many do not.

The distortion and EQ parts are easy. Forget the octave stuff. That's real hard to get to work right, and just complicated in general, especially if you haven't made a lot of effects... plus you need a circuit design to do that.

I'd suggest getting a kit from General Guitar Gadgets to start off. You could probably even fine an octave down or up circuit and build the two units in one box. But it would be a divider type circuit and not a pitch shifter.

I'm currently making myself a Maestro Bass Brassmaster fuzz clone (which does an octave up fuzz effect) using one of their circuit boards. Wish I still had my original Maestro unit.

General Guitar Gadgets is a great place to start. Also go over to www.diystompboxes.com and check out their forum. They have a really good beginner's project there too.
