I was thinking of trying out the audere 5zjd or 3zjd+tone. In the place of my sadowsky pre thats already installed after market in my bass. Or maybe retrofiting it with the VTC. Have not quite made up my mind yet. Looking for opinions.

Had a Sad outboard not onboard but I understand they're quite similar and it's not your typical pre. Had it's appeal but I'd wager a niche item not for the masses. So haven't had the VTC but what I've read about guys that have is it's nothing to scream about.

I say if you're not satisfied with what you've got no matter what it is then try something else no matter what it is.

Eventually you either hit on something you like or gain experience of what such swaps produce. Both are valuable - but maybe not cheap. See FAQ Dimento's "onboard" pre experiment for some of my dabbling.
