Strange problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I was in my band rehearsal today for a wedding gig. I didn't have my main axe so i practice with my backup bass which is a Warwick Corvette. My amp is a Ashdown EB180 combo and i also use the MXR M80 DI box and use that as a preamp.

I plug my bass in the M80 and then the M80 goes to the input of the amp as normal. We jam for a few minute then the problem start arise.

I hear the sound of my bass start chopping on and off constantly until it shoot off completely. First i thought i may blow the amp on my combo but i never put it pass 12 o clock on the volume.

So i unplug the M80 and plug my bass directly to the amp and same problem arise, it work for a few minute then it shoot off. So i was thinking it may be the cable that causing the problem so i switch another cable but same problem occur.

So now i was thinking it may be my bass that causing the problem, so i took use my friends bass and plug it directly in my amp and nothing happen so i plug all my stuff back in (include the M80) and start jamming for 2 hr and nothing happen still.

What will causing this to happen on my bass? Because i hope it is not my M80 or the amp that is faulty because i got a gig on saturday.

Has anyone suggested that it might be the battery?

Oh, oh~! Do I sense another "It's the battery" thread?
But, you know what? It sure is the first thing and simplest to try . . .

Is not battery, i test it out with a new one.

I got a feeling it could be my jack on the bass or the amp

Sounds like it might be the jack on the bass cutting the battery in & out. Can you run your bass in passive mode?

my bass is purely active because of the EMG pickup.

The strange thing is i try it at my rig at home and nothing wrong with the bass after 2hr practice.

I think is my active jack on my amp that cause the problem. Before i running a passive bass into a passive jack on the amp to test the is it my amp that causing the problem.

i guess i have to run my active bass on the passive input but lower the gain down on saturday.
