It's very possible and they sound better than many bass pickups. Their coil shape is very close to the Fender SCPB. String balance is pretty good too. Avoid "hot" Strat pickups because they'll sound muddy. If the DCR is around 6-8K it would be worth trying to see if you like it.

Which basses have you seen that use Strat pickups?

Please post some links if possible.

Thanks.

Fender musicmasters had strat-like pickups. I don't know if they were specific to the MM bass or not. How different from the 51 single coils? I don't know.

They were actually Musicmaster Guitar pickups and can sound great, once they are freed from the tone sucking controls they were coupled with!

They were Strat like in that they had 6 poles but the poles were flat and not staggered ala Strat pickups.

I've used several aftermarket pickups for a Strat on SCPBs, including Alumitone, EMG SA, and a couple of different "rail" type pickups.

Emmett Chapman uses EMG Tele pickups on one of his models and single-coil guitar pickups for his most expensive pickup "module."

Go onto the DiMarzio site & look at the double-rail pups - they can be coil-split and that can allow some very flexible options - also no probs with strings not sitting above poles, plus in series.parallel are humbucking etc....

My Bronco Bass (don't laugh- first bass)
Has a Strat (six pole piece) pickup-
Sounds kinda dead compared to my other basses but it's fine.
Peace
