String Spacing And Pole Pieces?

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok Im a bit of a newb so forgive me for any stupidity but heres my question. If I were to say, put a vintage P pickup (tele style) in a musicmaster/bronco/etc. would it not sound as good because of the closer string spacing of the short scaled bass. It'd cause the pole pieces to not line up with the strings right. I read this somewhere and wanna get more oppinions. Thanks for any help.

I know from experience that the pole pieces don't have to line up exactly to still sound good. Some of my Fenders were way off and sounded fine. I don't know how far off you will be on your bass before there will be a noticeable degradation of sound. You might try the Basslines QP single coil. It has larger pole pieces.

With a single coil you may have some problems with noise. If you have to route out the bass to fit a new pickup you have more choices in what to put in there.
