String to String Volume MIJ Modded P

Sign in to disble this ad
Recently had the pickups on my 1995 MIJ Precision replaced with SD Hot for P-bass pickups. Also had crackly Fender pots replaced with DiMarzio, and action lowered. Like the sound, but volume on the E and A strings is much higher than on D and G. Is this a feature of SD pickups, or of setup? Not a problem I had before, so I don't think it's technique.... Thanks for any help.

Lower the E/A or raise the D/E side of the pup/s.

Its just setup. Thats the great thing about a P-pickup ... individual string volume adjustment! Get out your ruler, fret each string at the last fret and see how far the polepiece is from the bottom of the string. The low strings should be slightly farther from the strings than the high ones, with the change coming down gradually. A good starting point is 3/32" on the G and 4/32" on the E
