String unbalance with neo pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
i bought a pair of handmade jazz bass neodymium pickups and they sound really good, but i was testing the string balance in mi pc with nuendo and theres no f****g way the E string sound balanced with the G (always weaker). The pickup distance now is, pressing in the last fret: G (2.00 m) E (2.7 m). the magnets aparently have the same strenght in G and E sides.
Can this be an acoustical problem of my bass?
the magnets pulling down or something? (this pickups are closed with no pole pieces and they still can atract the screwdriver and magnetize a little the strings --> i never saw that in another closed pup)

thanx

I put neo magnets in a cheap MM humbucker and had to drop it down considerably to stop it damping the G. I dropped the G side until the damping disappeared, then had to drop the E side to balance it up. The neo magnets that I used were just so much stronger than the old bar magnet.

My pickup magnet to string distance is about 7mm. It is a bit difficult to measure as the magnets are below the pickup cover surface.

More HI-FI, clarity, too much bright, more low end
