Struggling with my tone

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Carvin LB75AP 18v w/humbucking bridge pu(HB2) w/coil splitter and J-type H505 stacked humbucker for the neck. I also playing thru BX1200 head w/BR4410 and BR118 cabs. I'm running the bi-amp. The low B's output is so high at times it overdrives the 4x10 and the G string is very anemic, it doesn't stand out. Also, I'm overwhelmed w/EQ on the head. It driving me bonkers. Open for suggestions.

turn all eq'ing down. flat line it. bass to speakers.

open up the basses output all the way.

increase input gain on your amp to an acceptable level. add eq mildly to suit. dont over bear it.

How are you Eqing? Maybe you have too much bass boost going on, Are you severely cutting mids?

I would follow the advice of starting with flat Eq. Another important thing you can do, when your eq is flat, adjust the pickup height so that the output of each string on each pickup is matching.

You should also check the trim pots for the piezo pickup inside the control cavity. The B string trim pot could be higher than the others.

Raise the G side of the pickup, lower the B side.

The cab your running according to Carvin only is tuned down to 60Hz which mean the b-string is going to make the speakers flap a bit. You can try and make a small Eq cut at the 50Hz which should make it less boomy going to to 4X10. for the g-string raise the pickup a little on that side and you could try a little of that compression on the amp.
