Unhappy Stupid input accident

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,

I was practicing some bass when I suddenly got called, I left the cable in the input. Then i returned while on the phone, and i accidentally stepped on the cable, exactly there were it meets the input, and it gave a loud ''CRACK''.

Since then the input has been infirm and I cant put in the cable anymore because I simply press the input into the bass, so it wont say ''click''.

I know it was stupid to stand on my bass , but can someone please help me with this, because I have no clue what to do. I actually like screwed of the steel sort of plate around it to see if I could do anything about it.

Thank you

Xargxes

P.S. I've been looking for a while to find a sollution on this, but didn't find it, the one page I found was in pretty hard english, and without pictures, which made it hard for me (and my crappy english) to get.

It sounds like you have bent the tip contact on the jack. It may be as simple as bending the contact back into position. You'll have to expose the jack and look at it. If the part that is supposed to touch the tip of your cable is bent, bend it back so it makes contact with the tip again. That should take care of your issue. I hope that helps.

Hi agian,

I've been taking a closer look to the input, and what happens when I try to put the TRS connector into the jack (the hole, I think that's what you americans call the jack or input ), I like press the hole into the bass, if you get what i mean, I cant get it in because the jack (hole ) is like totally loose. I'ts almost like if i'ts a spring, that's to loose.

Maybe if I'd screw it open and glue it, so at least its solid and I dont keep pressing the hole down... so at least I can put it in? (just a wild guess, I suck at this kinda stuff)

Please help me

Xarg

P.S. I'm sleeping now, I live in +1, so its 23:40 gnight

To do this right, you first need to have the wood repaired professionally where you broke the plate loose or pulled the screws out.

Second, you need to replace the jack.

Photos would be nice.

The jack (output btw) is possibly damaged.
Remove the control plate and replace the jack

Also check the plug on the cord, it may also be bent.

If you run your cord through your strap this won't happen again.

Good advice. I personally like to use a cable with 90-degree plug on the end that plugs into the bass so that there's less potential for pulling it sideways if it catches on something.
